Teens Tutoring Kids to Achieve Reading Success

Team Read's coach and reader pairs have made remarkable progress this school year! While readers have been improving their literacy skills, coaches report that they're feeling more confident and better prepared for the college and career path ahead of them. 

We want to keep this momentum going through the summer and into the next school year, but we can't do it alone. When you GiveBIG for our summer reading programs, you'll keep this powerful program going for the kids who need it most. Readers and coaches work together for five weeks over the summer, so readers can maintain the progress they've made and start school in the fall ready to learn.

ABOUT TEAM READ                    

Team Read believes all kids deserve to be great readers and teens should have access to a meaningful, paid first job. We work to close education opportunity gaps through a unique cross-age, one-on-one tutoring program after school and during the summer. 

Our dual-impact model helps young students to become confident readers equipped for academic success, and teens to develop work and life skills that support their transition to college and future employment. 

We recruit, hire, and train teenagers who want to help younger students strengthen their reading skills. Coaches are paired with a 2nd –4th grade student who is reading at least one year below grade level proficiency. Our curriculum focuses on building fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.    

Working collaboratively with our school and library partners, Team Read will provide jobs and professional development opportunities for more than 300 teen coaches and support more than 400 student readers in Seattle, Highline, Renton, and Tukwila school districts this year!
