Mission

Hope Vision Foundation empowers people living with vision loss in the South Sound to regain their independence and to live their best lives, by providing education and by improving access to low vision resources and adaptive aids.

Description

There are over 40,000 people in the South Sound with low vision and blindness. This invisible disability impacts people's independence, social and work lives and often leads to isolation and depression if not addressed. Unfortunately, only about 2% of people with low vision seek vision rehabilitation due to barriers including: awareness, difficulty accessing services and training, the costs of care and devices, and anxiety and depression. Low vision is a vision problem that makes it hard to do everyday activities. It can't be fixed with glasses, contact lenses, or other standard treatments like medicine or surgery. Vision loss disproportionally impacts people over age 65 and the number of people with vision loss is expected to grow 72% by 2030.

Hope Vision Foundation empowers people living with vision loss by providing individualized resource connections and education services for visually impaired patients and their care partners.  We do this through our resource coordinator, who can identify resources based on your individual needs. We host Vision Fairs, featuring community resources and education. We continue to build our online curriculum for those unable to travel to in-person workshops, and we partner with other vision service organizations to build a device lending library. We hope to provide financial assistance to people who cannot afford adaptive devices.
