King County 4X4 Search and Rescue

Washington State is home to some of the most amazing trails, lakes, and terrain in the United States.  Within minutes from downtown Seattle, you can be on the slopes, mountain biking amazing trails, hiking a rain forest, paddle boarding beautiful lakes, standing next to breathtaking waterfalls, and much more.  King County Search & Rescue is a 100% volunteer team that trains constantly, and stands at the ready, to ensure everyone gets home safely from their amazing experiences.

In 2021, our 530+ active King County Search & Rescue members:

• Responded to 200 incidents (lost, injured, missing, crime scene) 
• Completed 369 training activities 
• Supported 170 community events 
• Volunteered for over 52,343 hours of their time in the service of others
• Saved Washington State an estimated $30M
• Paid for their gear, fuel, and time, out of their own pockets - because they are committed to making our community as great and safe as possible. 

The mission of King County Search and Rescue Association (KCSARA) is an incredibly important one: That Others May Live. As one of nine member units supporting SAR efforts in our county, KC4X4SAR is 100% volunteer, operates 100% free to the public by means of being 100% grant and donation funded. 

We work under the direction and leadership of King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) to reunite individuals with their families and loved ones. Our unit predominantly operates in King County, WA – the largest county in the state, by population and 12th largest county in the United States.

Additionally, as the largest organized volunteer SAR organization in the state, we deploy to approximately 10 of the other 38 counties in Washington State when help is requested

SAR efforts in King County are 100% free to the public, supported by corporate donors, private and supporter donors (90%), and individual member donations (10%). Through this volunteer model, it’s estimated that our county saves $30 million per year.
