When someone is lost, missing, or hurt, it's King County Search and Rescue (KCSAR) that jumps into action to bring them
home. What most people don't know, is that we are all volunteers.
The 4x4 team has over 80 members who buy their gear, maintain and upgrade their vehicles, spend evenings and weekends training, and cover all their expenses in order to be prepared when the call for help comes in. Despite saving the state an estimated $30M annually, there is no funding to cover those costs, so we do.
Here's how you can help. As the team prepares for our busy summer ahead, our inventory of team gear is low and we need to order the following things ASAP so we can outfit our team members, provide First Aid and missing child support at community events, and staff our Rapid Alpine Deployment team that visits the busiest trailheads throughout the summer.
Equipment needs:
- Pop-up tent: $474.94
- Hi-Vis Safety Vests: 25 @ $31.13ea. = $778.34
- Men's Shirts: 25 @ $24.81ea. = $620.19
- Women's Shirts: 25 @ $25.04ea. = $625.96
- Dicut stickers for the kids at trailheads = $300
- Medical supplies, equipment, training supplies = $1,200.57
