After a few decades of service, our Command Vehicles are quickly approaching the point of retirement.  They have both put in many hours and miles in the service of others, but both started life in another role and were already pretty worn by the time they were donated to us.

Join us in helping fund the replacement of these critical tools.  In addition to the funds we are raising, we are working with local vehicle suppliers and outfitters on potential grants and donations to assist.

About our trucks:

4x4 Command Truck: Callsign 846

  • 2002 Chevy 3500 Express
  • Operational command vehicle, outfitted with radios, first aid supplies, and workstations for planning and running missions in the field
  • Started life as a demo vehicle for Microsoft Windows Media Center, then it was abandoned for several years when it was broken into and gutted
  • Many hard miles, driving on roads it was never meant to travel
  • Current repairs needed: Generator failed, box separating from frame causing leaks, graphics peeling and fading, transmission recently replaced

4x4 Rescue Truck: Callsign 845

  • 2008 Ford F350 4x4
  • Forward Operations Vehicle, carries patient litter, first aid supplies, vehicle and body recovery gear, EMT supplies, and small team transport
  • Started life as a King County Sheriff's Office Deputy patrol vehicle, donated after it 100K miles in service
  • 170,324 miles on and off-road for missions, training, and community events
  • Current repairs needed: Brakes need overhaul, intermittent air bag light, graphics peeling and fading, headlights dangerously dim, auxiliary lighting failures, outer body seals failing causing leaks

Your donation or grant, paired with our efforts to secure a donated platform will enable us to replace these vehicles, and get them prepared, that others may live.

King County 4x4 Search & Rescue has been in operation since 1966 and is one of the oldest and longest running Search & Rescue units in the United States.
