It's time for GiveBIG and Rooster Haus has some BIG things happening around the sanctuary, and we could use your help!
Maintaining a safe sanctuary home for our residents is always our priority and this year we are focusing on the sustainability of our important work. We feel so lucky to live in such an old living forest, but it does come with challenges. This year, our sanctuary experienced many difficulties caused by several winter storms. Trees came down on structures, snow took down dozens of big branches, heavy winds left us without power several times, sometimes for many days in a row. Fortunately, no residents were injured by any of the damages, but the heavy work that goes into cleaning up fallen trees topped with the many repairs to the residents living quarters is a ton of hard physical labor and very difficult on our founder's back.
We have been putting off asking for help in purchasing a lightly used tractor or skid steer with a front loader for far too long. This is a necessary piece of equipment that we need to help us take care of some of these very difficult tasks that we deal with every winter. We would love your support to allow us to purchase a tractor so our founder can maintain our sanctuary property safer and more efficiently, allowing her to focus on our important mission and the continuous quality care she gives to the residents.
Here are just some of the things a tractor would allow us to do at the Haus:
1. Pick up and move tree rounds, branches and split firewood
2. Turn our compost pile which would provide rich soil for the raised garden beds that we are starting this year. Being more sustainable is extremely important to us, and this would allow us to help grow our own greens to feed our bird residents, especially our ducks!
3. Grade our driveway and move gravel. Due to the heavy rainy season each year, we get fresh gravel delivered to renew our driveway and eliminate the mud. A tractor would allow us to spread the gravel without our founder having to hurt her back shoveling and raking gravel for days.
4. Move woodchips around the sanctuary for our residents' enclosures and walkways.
5. Move any heavy object that needs moving.
We thank you in advance for your generosity and support! Thanks for making this sometimes difficult, but necessary, work possible.
