Spaces that once held artists, shows, and experiments are disappearing. The people who make this city what it is are being pushed further out, or forced to leave altogether.
With the support of our incredible community, we stopped The El Rey from being demolished and becoming another loss. Not because we had a perfect plan, but because we knew it could be something better if it stayed in the hands of artists.
CAM has always been about people first.
We’ve built our spaces around relationships and the idea that you don’t have to be established or polished to belong. You just have to show up, make something, and be part of it.
This project gives us the chance to take what we’ve learned and make it permanent while creating something that isn’t constantly at risk of disappearing.
We’re raising $1 million to make this next phase possible.
This funding goes directly toward restoring the building and building it out responsibly.
The building will bring together:
- Affordable housing that provides long-term stability
- Retail and public space that connects artists with the neighborhood
- Residency and creative workspaces that support artists in developing and sharing their work
