The grand drape is the face of a theater's stage - but ours is anything but grand!
It's 50 years old, torn, stained, and falling apart. The fabric is so thin in places the light shines right through it. It's been patched, stitched, and pinned again and again. It's time for a new one.
The historic Wagner Performing Arts Center is the heart of Monroe's community. Since 1939, it's where we've gathered for school events, concerts, plays, musicals, and more. It's time to show it some love. Please help us replace the drapes!
Damaged fittings along the track and a long tear held together with safety pins. New rips seem to appear every month.
The embarrassing "Patch of Shame" on the center edge of the grand drape. It's in full audience view when the drapes are closed. Not a good look!
Large threadbare patches and tears let light through the drape. Audience members have told us they could see stage activity through the thin spots during set changes!
Here's our long-term goal.
Replacement the grand drape and valances only will cost about $12,000. Replacement of all existing drapes plus the addition of legs and border will cost approximately $21,000.
Thank you for helping us bring the beloved Wagner Performing Arts Center back to its former glory!
