Ronnie was part of this rough crowd on Wall Street more than 30 years ago. He had limited options for shelter at night. No one wanted to help him because of his behavior.

But one night he was standing in that crowded room with a big smile on his face, holding a pass for one of the shelters. "Pastor Rick, ain't I beautiful?"

"Yes, Ronnie, you're beautiful."

"Then hug me."

I tried to give him a buddy hug. He threw his arms around me, cheek to cheek. Imagine it. He kissed me on the cheek and walked out into the night, having a place to go instead of Denny Park.

Later I realized Ronnie was so happy, he was showing love to me. That all-embracing love for people is what I strive to show since then.

"Love your neighbors." Sounds easy. It isn't always so.

Your gift helps get people inside and may save a life.

Nightwatch stories go back to 1967 when Rev. Bud Palmberg showed up on streets to listen and respond. Through the decades hundreds of volunteers and thousands of donors have made this incredible work move forward.

So many lives have been touched for good in the past.  Good stuff is still happening.

I watched in amazement last week when we revived someone from an overdose, and saved their life. I think of the other kinds of resurrections we've seen - people who had given up, suddenly being restored to hope and faith. People living outside getting housing. Hungry people being fed. Lonely people being listened to. Anxious people being reassured.

Will you join me in loving our neighbors?
