Support Day Workers
I’m fundraising for Casa Latina because I believe in their powerful movement to advance the rights and dignity of Hispanic day workers here in Seattle. I've hired day workers through Casa Latina for over 20 years, and from talking with workers, I know that this is an exemplary organization.
The most recent worker I hired, Sandra, is a single mother who fled a desperate situation in Guatemala and came to the U.S. alone. Casa Latina helped connect her with housing, connected her to fair and dignified jobs that pay a livable wage, offered her free skills classes, ESL Classes, and a connection to their very supportive women's group. Sandra couldn't say enough good things about this organization, and that is true for every day worker I've ever hired. Casa Latina doesn't take a penny of the worker's wages; 100% of earnings go directly to the day laborer.
Casa Latina builds power among Hispanic workers through employment opportunities, education, and community organizing. Their approach goes beyond direct services. Casa Latina supports members in becoming leaders and advocates, during this time when vulnerable immigrants are especially threatened. I have connected Hispanic friends and former students to wage theft support at Casa Latina when I've learned that they are not being paid minimum wage, or overtime, and in some cases were working 7 days a week with no days off.
Please join me in amplifying this vital work. Every contribution, no matter how small, builds power, opens doors, and honors the leadership and resilience of immigrant workers.
