Urban ArtWorks' mission is to engage youth, artists, and communities in the creation of public art that inspires connections and honors their voices.
Hi friends! In case you don’t know, I’m Angelina ‘179’ Villalobos, a Seattle artist and muralist, and a current board member of Urban ArtWorks. I came to Urban Artworks as a youth participant in the 90s. As a teenager, I was going through a difficult time and struggled to find my place. I was all shapes of awkward and introverted and it made it challenging to find my voice. I felt passionately for the injustices I saw in the world, but I didn’t have the language to articulate how I wanted to influence change. The adults in my life recognized the importance of art as a way to connect with me and enrolled me in the program Panels for Progress, which eventually became Urban ArtWorks.
Pictures of me around the age I went through the program (1997-98). I either always had a book or sketchpad with me.
Through this program, I discovered my passion for creating and expressing myself through art. Here I learned I could use my art to help initiate the change I wanted to see in the world around me. I since become a full-time artist and muralist in Seattle. I started a small business called House of the Wolves and have worked with clients like the Seattle Seahawks, Climate Pledge Arena, and recently - the Seattle Kraken. I’m sharing my story to show the impact that Urban ArtWorks can have on young people - and the way that public art transforms lives.
But Urban ArtWorks needs your support to continue making a difference in the lives of young artists like past me. By donating, you'll be empowering the next generation of creatives and helping to build a more vibrant and inclusive community. Thank you for considering a donation! And please enjoy the pics of baby Angel from around the age I was a participant. 🎨💕
