Ethiopian Community in Seattle

A nonprofit organization

The Ethiopian Community in Seattle (ECS), founded in 1980, is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Ethiopian immigrants as they build new lives in Seattle and the surrounding areas. ECS has been a vital support system, recognizing the cultural and language challenges many immigrants face. The organization provides essential help with job searches, housing, healthcare, and legal support. ECS also serves as a platform for community connections, where long-time members volunteer to guide and encourage new immigrants and refugees. Volunteerism has always been at the heart of ECS’s mission.

ECS envisions a healthy, thriving Ethiopian and East African community, uplifted by services that promote well-being and support resilient, successful integration. By focusing on education, health, and housing, ECS helps community members navigate complex social services and achieve their goals. Through long-term programs and dedicated advocacy, ECS addresses the root causes of economic and social challenges, empowering members to overcome barriers and pursue progress.

Today, ECS continues to uplift the community through essential programs in social services, education, senior health, small business support, food equity, and environmental initiatives like EBT and hazardous waste management. Each program helps build a brighter future for individuals and families, fostering a community where everyone has the opportunity to grow and succeed.
