Mission
Women United empowers kinship families in the Skyway and West Hill communities of King
County by specifically assisting underrepresented Black, African American, and BIPOC
caregivers who are 55 and older. We provide access to crucial education, resources,
opportunities, and support networks to ensure the well-being of both the children and their
kinship caregivers. Our primary goal is to strengthen these families and address the unique
needs of this often-overlooked community of grandmothers raising grandchildren. We achieve
this by fostering unity, encouraging family reconciliation, teaching vital socio-emotional skills,
and promoting positive self-determination.
Description
Women United upholds the empowerment of Kinship Caregivers who have taken on the responcibility of raising our grandchildren due to the opiate crisis, and adverse choices that have affected many our families in record numbers. We strive to provide assistance to our Kinship caregivers with a place to come from beneath the cover and into the light with the struggles we face daily in caregiving, such as reducing stress in transition, loneliness, unity-family reunification, personal balance and self care. We are not alone.
