GenPride (Generations with Pride) advocates for Seattle/King County older LGBTQIA+ adults' unique needs through programs and services that cultivate well-being and belonging

Description

GenPride was founded in response to the 2015 University of Washington Aging with Pride Report and now exists because Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) older adults experience pronounced disparities in housing, healthcare, and social support, racism and transphobia increase what black brown POC and trans folks have to navigate to have affordable housing, affirming healthcare and community support as older adults. 

Consider that there are at least 26,000 LGBTQ+ individuals aged 50+ residing in King County, yet the GenPride Center is the only senior community center designed for LGBTQ+ people. That's 1 out of 50 centers in the county. 

The Pride Place complex, where the GenPride Center is located in Seattle, WA., is designed to address the disparities in housing, healthcare, and social support that LGBTQ+ older adults face. Together, the 118 affordable apartments which is stewarded by our partners at Community Roots Housing,  and the GenPride Center are the only combined housing and community center designed for LGBTQ+ seniors in the PNW. 

GenPride provides an array of services tailored to support the needs and care of King County LGBTQIA+ elders including: wellness and community building programs; providing daily living assistance including community referrals, food and technology access; and providing culturally-competent and equity focused training to other health providers and senior-serving organizations. We’ve successfully provided these trainings to hundreds of health care providers, senior centers, social service agencies including the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) and the City of Seattle.
