Having A Mentor Can Change Everything

As the oldest of my siblings, I was the one who showed up.

I took on responsibilities no child should have to carry and doing my best to be what my family needed, even when I was still figuring things out myself.

I don’t look back with pity.
But I do wonder what my life might have looked like if I had someone in my corner, like, someone just for me.

A mentor? I had no clue that word existed.

Someone who could have reminded me that I didn’t have to carry everything alone.
Someone who could have helped me see all the potential I had, even then.

That’s what drives me today.

Because I know there are young people right now carrying more than they should young people who have all the potential in the world and just need someone to show up for them.

Through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound, I get to be that person.

And with your support, we can make sure more youth don’t have to do it alone.

Because one mentor can change everything.
