May 5 is #GiveBIG, Washington's statewide giving campaign, I'm rallying my network around a cause that is personally meaningful to me.

I serve on the board of Center for Inclusive Entrepreneurship, a nonprofit that helps rural and underserved entrepreneurs build sustainable small businesses. As an entrepreneur, I've experienced firsthand how difficult it is to build without access to resources and networks. 

Why should we help entrepreneurs? 

Handouts offer temporary help. Helping someone start their own business benefits them long-term.

Local ownership keeps wealth in the community, reduces dependence on big corporations, and creates opportunity for generations to come, creating a lasting impact that ripples throughout the economy. 

Mainstream entrepreneurship focuses on businesses that seek to return millions to investors, so even a $50,000-a-year family business is not worthy of their help. Aspiring micro-business owners get left out.

Why CIE?

CIE has a fourteen-year track record of delivering entrepreneurship training, advising, mentorship, networking, and peer support to low-income and underserved communities. Our participants have launched over 300 new businesses creating approximately 450 new jobs, and have secured over $5M in financing. 

Why Should I help?

Changes at the Federal level impacted our funding significantly - they did not like that we were 'Inclusive'. So your support at any level is especially helpful this year.
