Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association envisions a future where South Park and the Duwamish Valley are healthy, sustainable, and self-determined — where young people from BIPOC families are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and tools to lead environmental change in their own communities. Through STEAM education, citizen science, and hands-on programming, we don’t just talk about environmental justice. We build it.
At the heart of our current work lies the anaerobic biodigester in South Park—a model of the circular and regenerative economy. Food Lifeline — a community organization dedicated to food security — supplies us with food waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Our biodigester processes this waste and produces digestate, which we call PPF: Probiotic Plant Food — a liquid amendment that improves soil health, strengthens crops, and nourishes communities, a true circular solution.
But to get PPF from our biodigester to the community farms that need it,
we need a truck.
A truck with a 2,500 lb bed capacity will allow us to pump PPF into totes and deliver it directly to local farms — closing the loop between food waste and food growth, and between two mission-driven organizations working toward the same goal: a healthy and circular Duwamish Valley.
Our goal for GiveBIG is to raise $22,500. Your gifts will help us…
- Purchase a community work truck ($20,000)
- Fund a utility trailer for safe PPF transport ($2,500)
… So that we can:
- Deliver Probiotic Plant Food to community farms across South Park
- Sustain youth training and green jobs in the Duwamish Valley
- Strengthen the environmental and food resilience of our community
- Build healthier soils. Healthier crops. Healthier communities.
Whether you’ve followed our work for years or are just discovering us, consider this an investment in the future of the Duwamish Valley — and the youth leading the change.
