Update on the Berg Family

The Berg family continues to reside at the WoodSpring Suites here in Vancouver, Washington, and we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff for being so kind, compassionate, and supportive during this difficult time. Their care has made an enormous difference.

The family is still actively searching for long-term housing for themselves, their son, and their grandson. In the midst of their journey, our community has shown up in the most beautiful ways. Thanks to On Point Moving Company, Extra Storage (Susan), a wonderful couple from Washougal generously donated two months of storage to keep the family’s remaining belongings safe and dry. and more than 300 donors, helped to raised $16,127 to support the Bergs.  Between storage, food, and lodging, we have so far contributed $11,708.39 directly toward keeping the Bergs sheltered, fed, and supported.

We still have $4,419 remaining to fully cover their needs, and we continue to take it one day at a time to ensure this family does not lose the roof over their heads. They have been referred to Aging & Disabilities, VA, Clark County Senior Resource (Shannon Calles), and Vancouver Housing Authority.

A very special shout-out to Tina Vlachos at American Family Insurance and Tammy Leibfarth, owner of Simply Thyme Catering , who are providing the Berg family with a full Thanksgiving dinner. Because the family is in a motel, Tammy is preparing everything in advance—ready to heat and enjoy. Truly, it takes a village and we are so grateful for the support!

After 15 years of stability, the Bergs suddenly found themselves homeless and trying to rebuild their lives in their 80’s with disabilities.  This community has wrapped its arms around them, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

Thank you to every single person who has donated, shared, supported, or simply cared. During this season of gratitude, let’s all remember the power of helping someone in need.

From Bella and the Berg family, they thank everyone!🙏🧡

COMMUNITY ALERT: The Berg Family Needs Our Support

NWCAVE was recently made aware of the heartbreaking eviction of the Berg family — an 82-year-old disabled Vet, his 83-year-old wife, their adult son, and 9-year-old- grandson — who were forced out of their Clark County home of 15 years.  The Bergs fell on hard times earlier this year. Mr. Berg is bedridden with multiple disabilities, and his wife — his primary caregiver — relies on their son, who recently had to quit his job to care for both parents. Despite going through the full legal process, receiving a short extension from the court, and knowing the deadline to leave was approaching, this family still faced a devastating outcome.

When eviction day came, everything the Bergs owned was thrown out of the home — some items even tossed from a second-story window, shattering belongings that held 15 years of memories. After giving so much of their own money over the years for repairs, appliances, and upkeep of this rental home, this was how they were treated in their final days there.

Last night, Mr. and Mrs. Berg stayed in a motel. Their son and grandson slept at a rest stop in their truck.  NWCAVE has provided shelter for the next week for the family in addition connecting them all to resources for shelter, legal support, and care for Mr. Berg’s health needs.

Evictions happen, but this level of inhumanity should never happen to anyone — let alone a family who called this house home for over a decade.

We’ll continue sharing updates as we learn more. In the meantime, please share this post to raise awareness and help connect the Berg family with any additional community resources that may be available.

Funds on this fundraiser campaign, will be provided to the family.  So, let's all #GiveMore24 in the month of September!
