It’s that time again! Spring in Washington means tulips, longer days and donations to non-profits that mean something to you. Give BIG is a statewide, time limited, exciting time to make a donation that can be matched, doubling the impact you can make to a local non-profit. For me, that agency is HIP (Hunger Intervention Program).  My hope is that you can contribute to HIP before May 8 and take advantage of a matching contribution.

I met the founders of this agency over 10 years ago. I was managing a meal program for seniors, and they were volunteers putting together and bagging breakfast to deliver to a large shelter operating in downtown Seattle. Those volunteers had high standards about wholesome food and believed that everyone had the basic right to high quality food. These values are still driving HIP in the services they provide. Over the years HIP has expanded to having paid staff, a board of directors and many more volunteers. Programs have expanded as times have changed and HIP continues to work to meet the needs of their community.

For over 15 years HIP has continued this work and expanded to serve meals for residents in other shelters, senior centers, teach cooking classes and all-important meals for students over the summer and during the weekends when schools aren’t in session. HIP cares about the quality of the food, using whole grains, fresh fruits, dairy and protein for all these programs.

HIP is also on the ground advocating at the federal, state, and local levels for food access for all.

In the past year, HIP has served

  • 27,000 + Senior meals
  • 60,000 + Healthy HIP backpacks for school age kids
  • 10,000 + Summer meals

Totaling over 154,000 meals!

HIP operates in North Seattle and Shoreline where our neighbors are at high risk of hunger due to a recent reduction in federal food benefits (SNAP) and high inflation.

I'm asking you to contribute to this amazing organization so that they can continue to provide high quality and culturally appropriate food to folks in need.

Your generous donation will be matched up to $20,000 so don't wait to help support this amazing organization.

You can help HIP provide even more fresh, delicious, nutritious meals every week for seniors, families with children, and our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

You can help people like Patty, who had throat cancer, and credited HIP with bringing her back to health with HIP's Senior Community Meals, stating “I want you to know you guys have changed my life. You’ve made me better and helped me recover. I cannot thank you enough.”
