I'm part of a team raising $15,000 for Tasveer, an arts and advocacy nonprofit based in Seattle, so they can keep promoting and paying queer South Asian artists.

All of the work they do is incredible, but the part that has me in my feels is this:

For over 21 years, they have been rallying support for LGBTQIA+ folx in South Asia and their Diasporas all around the world.

I'm just learning about what it's like to be queer in South Asian countries and cultures*, where LGBTQIA+ identities and relationships are often stigmatized and criminalized. And queer representation is often limited or non-existent in South Asian media, culture, and politics- and even more sparse in global, mainstream media.

Tasveer works to create greater visibility and acceptance of queer identities and relationships, actively challenging cultural taboos and shaking up the status quo in the film industry.

Like, really. Look at this trailer for Queer Parivaar, a film that was screened as part of the LGBTQIA+ Shorts Showcase at AMC Seattle in November of 2022.

The queer community is protected, celebrated, and sustained by people who contribute what they can in the present to make the future better for those who come after us.

Tasveer maintains a safe, loving platform for queer South Asian filmmakers, artists, and storytellers to boldly share their stories, and I think that's worth supporting.

Give us a hand?
