We have seen higher numbers of animals coming into WAIF's care more than ever before. Why is that happening? From what we can find, there are many things. Housing restrictions that don't allow companion animals, lack of access and/or funds for veterinary care, increased costs for the basic essentials, and even the millions of spay and neuter surgeries that didn't take place during COVID shutdowns.

It all adds up to a worrisome and troublesome reality that animal shelters are facing at this very moment. We are overcapacity and underfunded to address this dramatic shift in the increase of animals needing care. This is not just a local problem on Whidbey. It's happening nationally, but we need your help right now for Whidbey's homeless pets. This year, let’s not leave Whidbey’s vulnerable animals behind in their greatest time of need.
