Founded in 2021 by recent graduates of Washington high schools, WEE is a group of college-aged women committed to supporting the education of rural Kenyan women, particularly in Taita Taveta. Recognizing the disparity in educational opportunities, especially for girls, we aim to ensure access to high school and university regardless of financial or social status.
In Taita Taveta, where subsistence farming is primary, families struggle to afford education due to limited government funding. Girls face greater challenges, including traditional gender roles and lack of access to feminine products, leading to frequent absences from school.
Our unique approach involves women, currently attending university in the US, fundraising for scholarships, and fostering personal connections through pen-pal programs and Zoom calls. Partnering with SeaVuria schools and Taita Taveta University, we offer mentorship and support for academic success.
By alleviating financial burdens, we empower Kenyan women to pursue education, break the cycle of poverty, and become leaders in their communities. As educated women, they can inspire future generations and contribute to societal and economic development.

Zawadi Hamadi:
Hello. I’m Zawadi Hamadi. I am studying at Moi University pursuing Chemical and Process Engineering. I’m currently in my third year, second semester and things are a little advanced now which is interesting. School has been fun and the best parts are the lab sessions. I’m to go for attachment (a school matching internship program) after this. In July, I’m still doing my research on the best places to go to. A little life update, I just turned 22 last Monday and I’m just so grateful I get to live life and be a girl in Tech!
Ann Mwikali
Hey, I'm Ann Mwikali. I am studying in Nep Mewa College pursuing Nursing. I am in my second year, first trimester. I just got back from my clinical rotations at the hospital, specifically the maternity ward, and this is my second week back in class. The experience was really eye-opening and taught me a lot about patient care, teamwork, and how unpredictable hospital life can be. Nursing has been challenging but interesting, and it’s helping me see life from a much bigger perspective. Things have been okay on my end, just focused on school and growth. My life update is I'll be turning 20 this year on May 22nd and am anticipating for that 😊😊.
