Founded in 2021 by recent graduates of Washington high schools, WEE is a group of college-aged women committed to supporting the education of rural Kenyan women, particularly in Taita Taveta. Recognizing the disparity in educational opportunities, especially for girls, we aim to ensure access to high school and university regardless of financial or social status.

In Taita Taveta, where subsistence farming is primary, families struggle to afford education due to limited government funding. Girls face greater challenges, including traditional gender roles and lack of access to feminine products, leading to frequent absences from school.

Our unique approach involves women, currently attending university in the US, fundraising for scholarships, and fostering personal connections through pen-pal programs and Zoom calls. Partnering with SeaVuria schools and Taita Taveta University, we offer mentorship and support for academic success.

By alleviating financial burdens, we empower Kenyan women to pursue education, break the cycle of poverty, and become leaders in their communities. As educated women, they can inspire future generations and contribute to societal and economic development.

She went to Mwakiwiwi for high school where she was also a member of the Seavuria scholarship program. In her free time, Linet enjoys spending time with friends and family and attending Sunday Mass in her community. Linet is hard-working, kind, and loyal, and it has been a pleasure to get to know her over the years. We cannot wait to see what she does next!

                                   Zawadi

Zawadi is a second-year student studying chemical and process engineering at Moi University. Her favorite part of school is the chemistry lab because she likes being active and hands-on in class. She has four siblings, including two older sisters, one younger sister, and one younger brother, and she loves spending time with them whether they visit her or she goes back home to Mombasa. She also enjoys being creative, especially when it comes to clothes and style, and she even started her own thrifting business!

Her goal is to mentor the young women in her community and teach them about the importance of education. Lorna has been a part of the SeaVuria program for several years now and we are so proud of all the amazing work she is accomplishing. She will be graduating from Tambach Teachers Training College this October and will then be attending Mt. Kenya University to pursue her master's degree!
