We need your help NOW more than ever!

I'm proud to be on the board of an agency that believes eating healthy food should be accessible to everyone in our community. Where we celebrate the diverse community we serve and build partnerships with people and agencies that we work with. 

We at HIP work with a tight budget, striving to serve culturally appropriate and nutritious meals to seniors, folks living in shelters, kids in schools that may not have enough food at home. This isn't an easy task. We do it because we are committed to connecting with our community through food. We do it because we value the people in North King County. We do it because it is the right thing to do. 

North Seattle and Shoreline residents, where HIP operates, experience hunger (or food insecurity) at a very high rate.  Factors like the reduction in federal food benefits (SNAP/EBT), tariffs, high inflation and lack of affordable housing mean hunger is on the rise. 

The most recent hit to HIP's programing is the sudden cuts to our Americorp staff of 6. These dedicated young folks have been working with HIP to provide Senior Meals, Afterschool Meals, Summer Meals and Health HIP packs full of nutritious food for the weekend. 

It's too soon to know what we at HIP are going to do about this. How will we be able to prepare and distribute the 10,808 Summer Meals we served in 2023-2024? That's a lot of kids that won't get the nutritious meals served during the summer break. What is going to happen to all the seniors that get to sit down with peers and have a healthy meal?

Many non profits are suddenly in a similar situation. The Trump administration has cut funding that so many people rely on.  Food banks, meal programs, early education have had funding cut.

Last year, HIP served over 190,000 meals, marking a 23% increase over the previous year, the highest amount since the height of the pandemic.
