At Haida Roots, we are working night and day to breathe life into our Haida language. We accomplish this goal through creating classrooms, videos and books for children. We have shared our creations freely in the community and have many more songs, books and videos in the works.
Your kind donation will help host online youth Haida language vocal/singing classes and help community members attend ongoing language courses offered through University of Alaska SE. We could purchase much needed supplies such as microphones/recording equipment & studio rental time, teacher & apprentice computers and iPads for the youth who attend online classes. We can hire Haida contractors to complete tasks such as an illustrator, filmmaker, translator, linguist, teacher and apprentice(s). Our people are so spread out across the Pacific, online classes have become a true language life saver! Funds will also be used to pay costs for internet, websites and digital book platforms and to print & disperse books and curriculum to our Haida language schools, programs and community partners.

Our cultural arts and teachings should come from us. This practice has proven to be a more gentle & efficient way to re-learn our ancient words.
Haida Roots began doing this work to bring joy to our hurting community. We found that reconnecting to our Xaad kíl brings faster healing. It brings back that sense of belonging, that every human desires. Oxitocin rises when we sing our songs.
