Hi friends!

Every winter we house our birds in our garage for a few months when the temperatures drop. They stay warm and dry which is essential in preventing frostbite. We use the safest heat source, oil filled radiators, but they do run up the energy bill significantly when we run them 24/7 for those months.  We keep their space heated to at least 50 degrees F.

We have rescued a few birds over the years who were neglected in below-freezing temps, some have lost parts of their toes, combs, and wattles, and some have lost entire limbs.

We are proud to have had no incidents of frostbite at our sanctuary in our 9 years, including living in both Minnesota and Washington.

Will you help us keep our feathered residents warm by donating for Giving Tuesday?

We thank you kindly for your support!

Warmly,

Melanie and Jay
