You have probably heard me talk about the Creative Dance Center and the class I take every Wednesday. What you might not know is why I love it so much. It’s not a typical dance studio but rather a space that encourages people of all ages and abilities to move, create, and connect.
Every week, I am inspired by the people in their 70s and 80s who are still dancing and finding community. At the yearly performance, I am always moved by the dancers in the adaptive class whose bodies and brains work differently from mine. Learning about the Braindance from Anne Green Gilbert has been one of the most influential things in my own teaching and personal life.
Creative Dance Center offers financial aid and scholarships, brings dance to young children experiencing homelessness, builds relationships with organizations like Onco-Ballet and Okanagan Nation Alliance, and leads dance residencies in local schools for students who may not otherwise be able to experience dance.
