Seattle has an abundance of fruit trees in parks, trails, and in neighbor’s back yards that are managed and harvested by City Fruit. The fruit that is harvested is distributed to 30 food banks, meal programs, elementary schools, and organizations across Seattle.
As food insecurity remains increasingly prevalent throughout Seattle, City Fruit is working to prevent the organic, quality fruit growing in our community from going to waste. Because of the abundance of fruit available each year, City Fruit relies on hundreds of volunteers to help harvest the fruit. They also educate the community on ways to care for their fruit trees, and increase awareness for local food systems and food insecurity needs. City Fruit is collaborating with organizations across the city to ensure that fresh fruit is not a luxury, but is available for everyone to enjoy. I launched this campaign because I want to support City Fruit’s commitment to increasing the accessibility of fresh, local fruit, and knowledge of our local food systems and its care.
