Seattle has thousands of fruit trees in parks, backyards and other public lands. City Fruit manages and harvests these trees and donates fruit to food banks, meal programs, schools and others who need it. Without City Fruit, most urban fruit would fall to the ground and rot.
There are more hungry people in Seattle than ever. You see many of them living on the street. Meanwhile, perfectly good fruit grows nearby. During summer and fall, City Fruit relies on hundreds of volunteers to harvest this fruit. In addition, it teaches people how to care for fruit trees and collaborates with other organizations working to reduce food insecurity.
I launched this campaign because City Fruit is a strong, vital organization with staying power and a proven ability to provide local fruit to people who need it and address food insecurity in Seattle.
