Books and Brains: Building Literacy and Logic Together is a dynamic summer program designed to strengthen literacy and math skills for underserved youth in Snohomish County. Through engaging reading circles, creative storytelling, and hands-on math activities, students will build confidence, critical thinking, and a love for learning in a supportive environment. We are requesting funding to support instructional materials, books, math manipulatives, and healthy snacks to ensure all participants can fully engage regardless of their background. This program is part of Make It Worthy’s broader mission to close educational gaps and empower young learners. Your support will directly impact 30+ students by giving them the tools, guidance, and motivation to thrive academically and beyond.
Make It Worthy is committed to closing the educational gap for K–12 students in Snohomish County. Our Books and Brains: Building Literacy and Logic Together Summer 2025 program is designed to help students recover from learning loss and reach the academic benchmarks necessary for long-term success in school.
This initiative not only supports academic growth but also provides a safe, structured, and engaging environment for children during the summer months—keeping them off the streets and actively involved in fun, educational activities. Through a mix of literacy and logic-based learning experiences, students will be both challenged and entertained.
In addition to the student programming, the initiative also offers family-friendly community events that raise awareness about the importance of K–12 education in our region. Parents will benefit from a dependable, enriching summer option for their children, while the broader community gains from increased educational engagement and stronger family-school connections.
At Make It Worthy, our mission is to ensure every student reaches their full academic potential—and we are intentional about tracking our progress toward that goal. For our Books and Brains Summer 2025 program, we will measure success through a combination of academic, engagement, and personal development outcomes.
To strengthen student support, we’ve added four new volunteer positions to provide essential one-on-one tutoring. This targeted instruction is critical for students who need extra time and attention to meet or exceed grade-level expectations. Our commitment is not just to participation, but to measurable improvement.
Key components of our evaluation strategy include:
Individual Learning Progress: Pre- and post-program assessments will help us monitor academic gains in literacy and logic skills.
Student Engagement: Participation rates in daily activities, field trips (such as our visit to the Everett Museum), and enrichment opportunities will be tracked.
Behavior and Motivation: Our Student of the Month initiative will reward consistent effort, positive behavior, and academic growth—encouraging students to strive for excellence.
Parental and Volunteer Feedback: We will collect input from families and volunteers to better understand the program’s impact and areas for improvement.
Basic Needs Support: We’ll also evaluate how providing water, juice, and snacks contributes to students’ overall readiness and ability to engage in learning.
This summer program is more than a seasonal offering—it’s a vital opportunity to change lives. We are fully committed to doing everything the right way to ensure lasting academic success for every student who participates.
