Why are there fees?
While sponsors, including 501 Commons, donate some support to Washington Gives and the GiveBIG campaign, annual nonprofit fees and donation processing fees are essential.
These fees fund:
What is the donation processing fee?
The credit card processing fee is 2.2% plus $0.30 per transaction. Donors can fully cover the processing fee on their donation. Annually about 86% of donors choose to cover processing fees, meaning nonprofits pay less than 1% of these costs. If a donor does not cover fees, 2.2% plus $0.30 is deducted from the donation ahead of disbursement to the nonprofit. (Please note fees for AMEX transactions will be subject to a slightly higher fee of 6% plus $0.30).
What are the annual nonprofit fees?
Instead of basing your annual registration fee on the amount you raised in the prior year, we have moved to a two-part fee structure that covers the public media campaign, nonprofit training, program staffing, and other costs of running Washington Gives.
You will pay an upfront registration fee, and a participation fee will be deducted from your GiveBIG 2023 donations. These two fees cover year-round use of the Washington Gives platform in 2023, as well as participation in GivingTuesday 2023.
What will our registration fee be?
The registration fee is a sliding scale fee you pay when you register for the year. We base your fee on your contributed revenue budget (CRB). Your CRB is what you expect to raise for your current fiscal year, minus earned income, capital campaign funds, in-kind donations, and interest/investment earnings. If you have government grants or contracts, please also exclude these funds from your calculations.
Your Contributed Revenue Budget | Your Registration Fee |
---|---|
Micro: $1 - $500,000 | $30 |
Small: $500,001 - $1,000,000 | $60 |
Medium: $1,000,001 - $4,000,00 | $120 |
Large: $4,000,001 - $16,000,000 | $200 |
Extra Large: $16,000,001+ | $400 |
What will our participation fee be?
A yearly fee based on 1.25% of the net amount you raise during GiveBIG (April 18 - May 31, 2023), up to a maximum participation fee of $5,000. The participation fee is automatically deducted ahead of May's disbursement of GiveBIG 2023 donations.
The disbursement of GiveBIG funds will be sent in late May, slightly later than the usual two-week period for EFT disbursement or one month period for check disbursement.
