Planet Wise Solutions collaborates with indigenous communities in Mexico to develop and deploy culturally grounded, sustainable technologies that promote health, resilience, and women’s leadership—ensuring long-term environmental and social returns for the communities we serve and the donors who support us.

Description

WFH was incorporated in 2008. Our goal is to educate and empower communities to take responsibility for their fresh water supplies. We offer a toolbox of potential solutions and rely on community input to determine their best options. At the household level, this may include rainwater harvesting, point-of-use water purification, gray water treatment, composting latrines and clean cook-stoves (to curtail woodcutting for open fires that use large amounts of wood and are a major cause of deforestation). We conduct workshops in Mexico to teach indigenous stove builders how to construct Generation 2.1 of our popular La Mazateca ecological cookstove. We stay in communities long enough to make sure that the solutions we've piloted with them are culturally appropriate and can be constructed, maintained, repaired and supported locally with indigenous expertise and our in-country partners. We operate with 2 full-time staff. We are actively supported by our board of 6 environmental and business professionals, 10 associates providing technical support, and 36 volunteers who provide everything from CAD engineering drawings to webmaster support. Local and regional partnerships are essential for us to leverage a broad range of resources for projects. Aldama Proasus is our major partner in Mexico.
