Mission

Our mission is to improve equity in access to healthcare for vineyard workers and their families.

Description

VITAL envisions a wine industry where everyone's health needs are met.

Washington State's wine industry has an economic impact of $9.5 billion wine industry and is reliant on a population. Without vineyard workers, no vintage would be possible. As the wealth and health gap continues to widen in the wine industry, VITAL steps in to promote the health, dignity, and inclusion of vineyard workers.

With your help, we are able to continue our work toward improving equity in access to healthcare for vineyard workers and their families.

We currently have four programs that are the backbone of our organization:

  • Community Health Advocate/Promotora de Salud position dedicated to the Latino population in Walla Walla Valley, with a focus on vineyard employees. This person provides outreach, individual care and navigation, coordinates health-related community events, and advocates on behalf of the client population. We are actively expanding this program to place a Community Health Advocate in every major wine growing region of Washington State.

  • Day at Home Funding- Direct financial assistance for health and wellbeing allowing vineyard workers to stay home and recover from major medical emergencies, injuries on the job, or COVID-19 without losing critical income.

  • VITAL Vision Program- Providing free eye exams and glasses for vineyard workers and their and their school aged children.

  • Since 2017, Vital contributes annually to SOS Health Services, a free, bilingual healthcare clinic, serving the uninsured and under-insured.
