VASHON SENIOR CENTER: Enriching the lives of older adults on Vashon and Maury Island.

Vashon Senior Center is a community gathering place for older adults and all who care about them. Vashon-Maury Island is both rural and isolated. Residents are dependent on WA State Ferries for all travel off-island. With a median age of 53 years, Vashon-Maury Island has the highest percentage of older adults in King County. Nearly half of Vashon's 11,000 people are 55 or over. Over 25% are 65 and older.

At Vashon Senior Center, we help seniors enjoy lives full of friendship, good health, community and connection. 

We serve fresh, hot meals and delicious salads three days a week at the Center, and volunteers deliver dozens of those meals to homebound seniors. Our chefs prepare more lunches on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays than most Vashon restaurants. Our programs support good health, mental agility, fitness & more. Every program brings the warmth of social connection. 

Senior Center Activities include:

• Zumba, Tai Chi, Spinal Mobility, Seattle Theatre Group's Dance for Parkinson's classes, Wild Walks on Vashon trails
• Mah Jongg, Bridge, Scrabble, Canasta, Pinochle & more
• Music Mends Minds, Book Club, Photo Club, knitting groups and writing groups & more
• Foot care, haircuts and smart phone support
• Talks on Vashon history, community issues, Medicare, protection from scams, elder law, health, end-of-life planning & more

Senior Center Village

The Village supports seniors with living independently at home as long as possible. Village Bluebird volunteers drive elders to medical and other appointments, most of them off-island. Volunteers make check-in calls to homebound seniors and offer chore support. Village connections foster longevity. Community connections are needed more than ever as we age. The Senior Center Village is a literal lifeline for Vashon seniors, especially those who are aging alone.

How We Do It All: The Senior Center has a small, nimble staff and a volunteer corps of over 140 amazing individuals, many of them seniors themselves. While we receive grants, we rely on individual donations from people like you.
