At its heart, the Museum is here to preserve and share stories of Vashon Island.  Everyone has a story. This is a foundational principle for us. We redesigned our Permanent Exhibit with this idea front of mind.

We've shared so many Vashon stories through our special exhibits:

  • Joy and Heartache: Vashon’s Japanese American Legacy
  • In and Out: Being LGBTQ on Vashon Island
  • Vashon’s Native People: Navigating Seas of Change
  • Home of Record: Vashon and the Vietnam War
  • Island Revered: Honor and Friendship the sx̌ʷəbabš and Sherman Family Collection

There are so many more, and we are gearing up to share another! Sealth: The Camp of Our Dreams will open in August!

For more than a century, girls (and boys since the 1970s) have been making friends, building leadership skills, and learning about themselves at Vashon’s Camp Sealth. Nature hikes, cooking on the beach, and sleeping outdoors all provide opportunities to develop leadership skills and build lifelong friendships.

This GiveBIG, we are raising funds for this next special exhibit!

A new special exhibit every six or seven months is a heavy lift for a Museum of our size. We love our ambitious and committed Special Exhibit Committee, and the community volunteers who come together to imagine and then create a specific exhibit.

To give our exhibits the professional presentation you expect, we work with local graphic designers. They make our subject matter sing, and we love working with them. Professionally printing and mounting an exhibit stretches the budget, but we are able to pull this off twice a year thanks to both our dedicated volunteers and our paid support team.

The steady and ongoing support of our community is how we can share these stories.

We plan to spend about $5,000 to produce and display Sealth: Camp of Our Dreams.

This GiveBIG, will you add the Museum to the list of causes you support?

You can make a one-time donation through the GiveBIG portal. This is best for donors who have many causes they would like to support.

You can also become an even more powerful supporter of our work by becoming a monthly donor. Regular, monthly giving is a great way to make an impact through steady, ongoing support for the Museum.  This is best done at our website.

We appreciate your support.
