Our mission is to build a hunger-free Northeast Seattle by providing our neighbors with reliable access to healthy food and life-changing resources.

Description

For more than 40 years, University District Food Bank has helped prevent hunger in Northeast Seattle neighborhoods. Each week, more than 2,500 families receive the groceries they need to prepare nutritionally balanced meals at home. Our innovative and award-winning grocery store styled shopping system maximizes customer choice and ensures that all food bank customers take home three days of healthy food that is most appropriate to their specific needs and preferences. Last year, 11,000 different families made 109,000 visits to us. Through these visits, we distributed about 3.4 million pounds of food. 2% of our clients are infants, 18% are children, 63% are adults, and 17% are senior citizens. Approximately 25% of our customers are homeless. Additionally, each week we deliver groceries to 500 households in our Home Delivery program, provide weekend meals to 950 middle, elementary, and high school students in our Packs For Kids program, and supply groceries to 375 individuals and families at our North Seattle College and Magnuson Park Community food pantries.
