Mission

Totem Star supports a diverse community of young recording artists learning music and life skills through mentorship and meaningful relationships. Our work in the studio and on the stage fosters growth in collaboration, leadership, and self-identity.

Description

Totem Star has 5 different active programs. Please see below.

Learn more about our programs here

Lavender Sessions

Lavender Sessions is an intentional space for women and/or LGBTQ+ artists ages 14-25 to gather together around music and artistry, and provide mutual care and support for one another.

The Studio

The Studio is the creative heart of our programming, where our artists book weekly studio sessions (daily from M-F) to work with Totem Star artist mentors and collaborate with their peers to work on songwriting, vocal technique, beat making, mixing, mastering, music business, performance, movement, and more.

The Jam

The Jam is a monthly jam session that happens every 1st Thursday at our studio between 4-8pm. During this time, new and current Totem Star Artists can drop-in to sing, rap, play an instrument, listen and jam in community.

The Stage

The Stage consists of quarterly open mic nights and youth arts showcases open to the general public where youth perform their original music, are surrounded by peers that inspire them, and learn about live performance in the process.

Artist Booking

Artist Booking is a program where we provide performance opportunities in the community with organizations such as the Seattle Art Museum and Seattle Center. Totem Star manages contracts for our artists and we are able to either advocate for and negotiate fair pay from partners or pay artists directly.
