Mission

Our mission is to preserve and promote Nordic culture, especially Swedish culture, through the singing of choral music.

Description

We are a community-based, non-audition choir whose mission is to promote and preserve Nordic culture through choral music. We sing primarily in Swedish and other Nordic languages, drawing from Nordic composers, lyricists, and choral traditions from the Baroque through the very contemporary. The Swedish Singers of Seattle comprise two heritage choirs: the Svea Male Chorus established in 1905, and the Swedish Women's Chorus of Seattle established in 1951. Both choirs are Jubilee members of the American Union of Swedish Singers. We sing throughout the year at Scandinavian events, regional choral festivals, and at the Swedish Club. There is no need to be Swedish or of Swedish heritage - we are a diverse and welcoming group. There is also no need to speak or understand Swedish - we have native speakers who provide help with pronunciation and translation.
