Mission
The mission of St. Stephen Housing Association (SSHA) is to provide housing and support services to families with children experiencing the crisis of homelessness or housing instability, to enable them to move toward housing and economic stability.
Description
St. Stephen Housing Association (SSHA) has been providing affordable housing and support services to families experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis since 1989.
We support families by helping them find ways to increase their income and reduce barriers to attaining permanent housing. Our work with families aims to result in their achieving both stability and the ability to sustain their housing in the future.
Experiencing homelessness is especially detrimental to children, often causing adverse effects on normal childhood development. Families experiencing homelessness, especially large families, can find the barriers to obtaining affordable housing insurmountable. Many have struggled with addiction, mental illness, and domestic violence. These families often need more time and assistance finding stability, and a stay in transitional housing with supportive case management services can help them better prepare for permanent housing.
Through affordable housing and supportive services, St. Stephen Housing Association fills this crucial need for the families who need it.
At the end of 2024, we united with another long-time family transitional housing provider--Way Back Inn. Together, this partnership will help us broaden our reach, serve more families in need and be more sustainable for years to come.
Recognition
Thank you to all those who have supported us during previous GiveBIG events! We are especially grateful to our matching fund donors, who gave generously to help make each gift stretch farther. We could not do this work without the many who have supported our program over the years--we are so grateful you've chosen to give to St. Stephen Housing!
