Sound Action

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Sound Action is an environmental watchdog group dedicated to protecting the health of Puget Sound's nearshore habitats and species by ensuring the application of environmental regulations, employing sound science, collaborating with a network of groups, and engaging people in nearshore protection and advocacy.

Description

Despite decades of recovery work, Puget Sound is in a critically imperiled state. Eelgrass beds have disappeared, herring populations have plummeted, chinook abundance is a fraction of historic levels, and orca populations have dwindled perilously. Habitat loss due to poorly regulated development is considered a prime factor in this decline. With a sense of urgency, Sound Action has stepped up to turn the tide for Puget Sound by providing direct oversight to important Puget Sound regulatory processes to ensure that environmental laws are applied during nearshore permitting considerations. Without this change, the Puget Sound ecosystem will be lost forever.
