Mission

SnoValley Tilth supports organic and sustainable food and fiber production throughout the Snoqualmie and Snohomish watersheds. We bring together farmers and the community to build a thriving local food system.

We envision more farmers on more farmland, growing more sustainable food and fiber for our community.

Description

Since 2003, SnoValley Tilth has served as a vital part of the local food system, working to help farmers and sustainable agriculture in our region thrive.

SnoValley Tilth began with farmers gathering to share knowledge about organic and sustainable growing techniques and solve problems over potluck meals. That grassroots spirit remains at the heart of the organization as we've expanded our work. SnoValley Tilth is proud to remain a locally focused, farmer-led organization.

SnoValley Tilth's local focus allows our programs to address opportunities and challenges presented in our region. Our Experience Farming Project addresses the dual challenges of supporting beginning farmers and protecting farmland in the region. The program works with new and small-scale farmers to provide land and support for their emerging farm businesses. We operate the Experience Farming Project on farmland on land that needed improvements to return it to farmland. Since taking over management of our current site, we've put nearly 15 acres in to production or cover-crop, built a shared cold storage, and improved share irrigation for farmers. Over the next year, we'll work to build a greenhouse to help farmers get crops started in the spring and improve the wash and pack station, among other projects.

To help farmers find productive farmland, our Farmland Network connects landowners with farmers seeking land. Our work includes assessing available farmland and connecting farmers with a site appropriate for their production and business needs.

To help farmers continue to acquire the knowledge they need to productively farm, our farm services program hosts workshops, networking events, and business support opportunities for farmers within our valleys. From soil health to pest management, the learning opportunities facilitated by SnoValley Tilth help farmers produce healthy, sustainable food for our community.

Our work is more effective thanks to important partnership within our community. As a member of the Working Farmland Partnership, we work with other nonprofits to protect farmland and keep it in production to feed our community. SnoValley Tilth represents farmers in our local government, serving as an active member of King County's Fish Farm Flood and a partner on Snohomish County's Sustainable Lands Strategy. As a fiscal sponsor for community gardens and the Snoqualmie Valley Seed Exchange, we are proud to support the work of others to sustain a thriving local food system.

Today, your donation will support farmers working to produce food for our community while also ensuring that farming remains viable in our region. We thank you for your support!
