Within the history of musical theatre there have been disparities, not only between those who have access to school and training and those who don't, but also what kind of roles are written and who has access to those roles. At Showtunes one of our core tenants is to provide access and inclusivity to those who may not fit within the historical "norms," and to redescribed classic and modern musicals to fit within a contemporary human lens, within the Seattle musical theatre community. Your gift will help provide more access to local artists and ensure that audiences for years to come will gain different perspectives on the stories that musical theatre tells.  While ticket sales accounts for less than 40% of our production costs, your generous donations keep our productions running and continue to support our artists. Showtunes celebrates the art form of musical theatre by showcasing regional talent in performances that spotlight the book and music of both rare and reimagined material made culturally and economically accessible for the community.

Description

Showtunes was founded in 1999 to create concert performances of the many unsung gems of the American musical theater. Over the years Showtunes has had many homes and produced more than 50 productions.  Sharing the incredible power of musical theatre has always been at the center for Showtunes.  Hiring hundreds of local artists, we bring unique stories or uniques ways of telling stories to the stage in concert form.
