Amplify and preserve the authentic narratives of South Seattle’s BIPOC* and historically marginalized and misrepresented communities.
The South Seattle Emerald™ has passed a milestone! This year we are ten years old. That's right, the South Seattle Emerald™ has amplified the vibrant tapestry of voices, stories, and images of the South End and beyond for ten years. The Emerald's lean, dedicated team offers a wider lens to Seattle's most diverse, least affluent, and woefully under-reported communities. In a dwindling media environment, the Emerald's award-winning journalists and community storytellers have presented articles, verses, and photos that inform, reflect, engage, and delight readers.
We need your support to continue building our newsroom and providing reporting that reflects our community.
South Seattle Emerald™ reporting makes a difference. The coronavirus pandemic highlighted racial disparities our communities knew were always present. The Emerald™ stepped up, providing daily COVID-19 news, resources, and stories that brought joy and energy to move forward in community and unity.
The Emerald™ continues to practice journalism as we believe it was intended to function: speaking truth to power and, more importantly, to those believing themselves powerless. We remind them they are not. Together, we will survive and thrive.
A monthly donation or one-time gift will go a long way in helping the Emerald™ meet our 2024 fundraising goals and prepare for a challenging 2025 news year.
The South Seattle Emerald™, the only Black-led, BIPOC-focused publication in the region, received over 2 million views in 2022. The Emerald breaks news, provides vital information, and shares the arts and culture of the diverse people of the South End (South Seattle and surrounding South King County communities from Burien to Skyway, from Kent to SeaTac and Tukwila).
Thank you to the generous donors who helped us survive - and thrive. Help us take the next step to sustainability by GIVING BIG to the Emerald:
