Mission

The Seattle Architecture Foundation (SAF) connects people to the architecture, design, and history of Seattle. We believe the more you engage with design, the more you feel connected to your changing city. As a volunteer-driven organization, we provide programs which empower you to make a difference in your community. 

Description

Design shapes communities on many levels, whether we are conscious of its impact or not. Everything we touch and everything we see in the built environment is a product of the design process. Plazas, public spaces, even things often considered natural, like parks and landscaping, are intentionally designed. SAF engages youth and adults with the built environment through architecture walking tours; workshops for kids and families; talks and exhibits; and special events throughout the year. With your support, approximately 7,000 individuals are served annually through our programs, many of which were online this past year.

We are committed to ensuring the next generation of architects reflects the diversity of our community. To that end, we provide scholarships and fee-waivers to allow youth from all backgrounds to participate in our weekend workshops. Additional year-round programming is provided through partnerships with Seattle Public Schools, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Coyote Central, and The Northwest School. In a normal year, we serve up to 500 youth and their family members through our various programs.

As we re-launch our programs, we are reviewing our content and offerings in an effort to ensure that we recognize the significant contributions BIPOC have made within our community and the built environment.
