Mission

Rwanda Girls Initiative's mission is to educate and empower girls in Rwanda to reach their highest potential. Our vision for our students is that they will graduate as inspired young leaders, filled with confidence, a love of learning, and a sense of economic empowerment to strengthen their communities and foster Rwanda's growth. Educate a girl. Inspire a community. Transform a country.

Description

These girls are changing the world.

Alodie was a shy girl, unable to formulate a complete sentence in English and scared to talk in front of people.  However, she dreamed of attending the best school in Rwanda, Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology.  Gashora Girls Academy was founded as an all-girls boarding school to enable young women like Alodie to reach their full potential - and as a result, transform Rwanda and change the world.

Alodie was admitted to Gashora Girls Academy on scholarship, where 100% of students receive financial aid on a sliding scale.  Surrounded by a strong sense of sisterhood and a positive, empowering atmosphere, Alodie built solid friendships and began to flourish. She credits Gashora Girls Academy for her growth and success, providing a safe and nurturing environment where girls are encouraged to take risks and express themselves freely without fear of judgment. Alodie says, "Gashora allowed me to grow academically and personally, instilling a love of learning and a sense of responsibility to my community."

Alodie attended Trinity College in Connecticut, where she earned a degree in computer science. After graduation, she returned home to Rwanda, where she became engaged in her community and joined the National Youth Council.

In December of 2022, Alodie ran and was elected as a member of Parliament for the East African Legislative Assembly. She believes everyone has a role to play to build a better future for her country of Rwanda and the region.  Her goal is to shape policies and laws that give a voice to the youth and harmonize laws across East Africa.

Alodie and young girls like her are the reason that Gashora Girls Academy was founded. Investing in girls’ education, especially secondary education, is one of the most powerful levers one can pull to spark systemic change. Girls' education promotes economic development, fosters peace, and reduces societal inequalities. We know it’s important to get girls into the classroom. We want to get them into the boardroom, too — and the operating room, the laboratory, and the capitol.

We envision a world with these talented women like Alodie at the helm, leading us into a brighter, more equitable future. Will you help us make that happen?
