Description

The Academy, situated in the vibrant city of Redmond, is a beacon of artistic expression and educational enrichment. Since its inception in 2011, the Academy has played an integral role in the local arts community, offering a unique platform for young individuals to explore and excel in the world of musical theatre.

We are the only youth musical theatre school in Redmond, and this specialization allows us to create a nurturing, inclusive environment where young performers aged three and upwards can discover the enchantment of theatre. Our approach is more than just putting on a show; it's about cultivating well-rounded artists who are well-versed in the fundamental pillars of musical theatre, including acting, singing, and dancing, while also gaining insights into the technical aspects of theatre production, such as costuming and set design.

In our quest to foster artistic growth and nurture self-confidence, we operate a year-round programs that includes no fewer than eight full-scale productions, three four-month sessions of theatre classes catering to ages three to young adults, and engaging camps during summer and school breaks.

The Academy's significance transcends its role as a platform for children to engage in the performing arts. We serve as a vital hub for building confidence and self-esteem among our young participants. Our academy offers a safe and welcoming space, fostering a sense of belonging, where young individuals can explore their creativity and express themselves freely. The diversity and inclusivity we champion are integral to our identity.

The young people coming to The Academy come from a wide array of backgrounds and experiences. Our strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion ensures that every child, regardless of their background, feels valued and respected. Shy kids often find their voices and grow into confident young individuals who can perform in front of large audiences, transforming their lives in the process. Neurodiverse children discover kindred spirits and avenues for excellence in the theatre arts. Moreover, the Academy has been a haven for LGBTQ+ youth, offering a safe space where they can find a strong, supportive community. Our scholarship program ensures that youth from all socioeconomic backgrounds have access to our programs, making the performing arts truly inclusive and accessible.

Redmond Academy's teachers and staff are all committed to the education and support of each child who enters our doors. Oversight and leadership for the Academy is provided by a Volunteer Board of Directors.  Apart from this, the operations and upkeep of The Academy heavily rely on the efforts of numerous volunteers. They generously contribute their time and skills across various areas, from administrative tasks and operations to helping with show days.

Our holistic approach to youth musical theatre education, along with our commitment to diversity and inclusion, makes the Academy stand out in the community. We firmly believe that by nurturing the artistic potential and self-confidence of young individuals, we are contributing to the growth of not just aspiring performers but also responsible, empathetic, and creative citizens.

The Redmond Academy of Theatre Arts is dedicated to empowering young individuals, fostering their creative spirits, and ensuring that the performing arts are accessible to all, irrespective of background or circumstance. We are deeply committed to our mission, and with your support, we can continue to make a profound difference in the lives of the youth in our community.
