Mission

The Raven Chronicles/Raven Chronicles Press is a nonprofit independent publishing press and literary organization, established in Seattle in 1991. We strive to publish and showcase work that embodies the cultural diversity of writers and artists; work that expresses family and forebears; work that connects with the soil, water, and air of place and home. To this end, Raven Chronicles Press publishes the work of traditional storytellers, along with experimental work in emerging forms of art and literature.

Description

The Raven Chronicles/Raven Chronicles Press

The Raven Chronicles/Raven Chronicles Press is a nonprofit independent publishing press and literary organization, established in Seattle in 1991. We strive to publish and showcase work that embodies the cultural diversity of writers and artists; work that expresses family and forebears; work that connects with the soil, water, and air of place and home. To this end, Raven Chronicles Press will publish the work of traditional storytellers, along with experimental work in emerging forms of art and literature.

In 2021, we expanded our efforts to distribute recent Raven publications, especially our 2020 anthology, Take a Stand, Art Against Hate, to non-profit educational and youth organizations throughout Washington State. In 2025 we will publish 5 books, including the inaugural winners of our Keepers of the Fire Prize for Fiction & Nonfiction: Georg Koszulinski and Rena Priest. Your donation will help continue this endeavor, and in our ongoing mission to publish the work, both written and visual, of diverse, multicultural voices and visions.

Our programs and publications have been supported by The Seattle Foundation, Cultural Development Authority/King County Arts Commission (Sustained Grant Support), Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs/Seattle Arts Commission, Tacoma Arts Commission, Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA), NEA, Allied Arts Foundation, Seattle Center Foundation, Bainbridge Arts & Humanities Fund, Breneman-Jaech Foundation, North Seattle Community College, Richard Hugo House, the Jack Straw Foundation, and our individual supporters.

In 2017, we worked with Seattle City of Literature to publish the work of 6 writers from Seattle's sister city, Christchurch, New Zealand. In 2016, Raven co-sponsored, along with The Seattle Public Library and It's About Time/Writers Reading Series, a "Poets Against Hate" reading at the downtown library, featuring over 50 poets, including Claudia Castro Luna, Seattle's first Civic Poet.
