Mission
The mission of Pushing Boundaries is to deliver intensive exercise therapy that strengthens and supports people living with paralysis, and their families, to maximize health and improve quality of life.
Description
For nineteen years, Pushing Boundaries has worked to maximize function and independence for the paralysis and movement-disorder community, serving those with a variety of diagnoses including Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, MS, and Cerebral Palsy. Our Exercise Therapists provide highly customized intensive therapy programs that use a combination of state-of-the-art robotic and electric stimulation devices, adaptive tools, and standard gym equipment.
Pushing Boundaries was founded in 2005 by Sharon and Allan Northrup after Allan was injured in a motor vehicle accident leading to a paralysis diagnosis in 2001. At the time, no facilities providing exercise therapy existed in the Pacific Northwest, and Sharon and Allan initially travelled to California to find the care they were looking for. In 2005, they decided to move back to Washington and start their own facility for people recovering from spinal cord injuries using equipment Allan had collected along his journey. Nineteen years later, Pushing Boundaries remains the only facility of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, serving a broader clientele living with and recovering from neurological movement disorders and paralysis.
Pushing Boundaries Clients pay for our services, and we fundraise to keep those rates as low as possible. Community support currently subsidizes $60 of the cost of each hour of service- keeping our rates affordable for the many.
Thank you for investing in our clients.
