Mission
Puget Sound Maritime strives to promote and preserve the maritime heritage and culture of Puget Sound and the Pacific Northwest.
Description
This year's GiveBIG campaign funds will be used for general support and to help us develop new education and exhibit content that will be focused on creating greater accessibility to our collections and Puget Sound's maritime heritage. While we are continuing our efforts in digitizing our photograph collections and making them available online, we are also working to develop a new exhibit for the McCurdy Family Maritime Gallery!
Supporting Puget Sound Maritime includes supporting our signature education program, the Youth Maritime Training Association. Since 2014, PSM has run YMTA to help raise awareness among youth of Puget Sound's thriving maritime industry and inspire them to get involved. YMTA distributes over $10,000 in scholarships each year to students pursuing an accredited maritime education.

Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society set sail in 1948 and has been an active participant in the region's maritime community ever since. Our mission is to promote and preserve the maritime heritage and culture of Puget Sound and the greater Pacific Northwest. To that end, we maintain a collection of artifacts, archives, historic photos, ships' architectural plans, and library books. We reach our audiences through curated exhibits online and at the Museum of History and Industry, guest-speaker events, our scholarly journal "The Sea Chest," social media, children's education programs, and partnership with other heritage organizations. In 2014, we acquired and the YMTA (Youth Maritime Training Association) program, which provides information and scholarships to high school students interested in maritime-related careers. Through YMTA we aim to educate students and young adults about the maritime industry, culture and economy of our region, inspiring a continued passion for our maritime heritage.
