Puget Sound Training Center is a 501©3 nonprofit employment and job training agency that has been in operation for the past 29 years. PSTC started as a branch associated with Yakima Valley, Opportunities Industrialization Center. Since PSTC's inception in 1998, we have been true and steadfast in our mission. In 1998, the direction expanded into Renton, WA under the leadership of Joseph Drake. It then became Puget Sound Training Center. The mission of PSTC is to advance economic mobility among our most vulnerable populations- low-income communities of color, and culturally and linguistically isolated immigrants and refugees. We do so through a racial equity lens that promotes access to education, credentials, digital literacy, job skills training, and comprehensive employment services through a bilingual and culturally competent model of care. Unfortunately, these vulnerable populations face barriers related to unemployment and underemployment, such as lack of education, limited job experience, limited English proficiency, and other personal challenges. This is where Puget Sound Training Center steps in.

To date, Puget Sound Training Center has served over 8,500 clients and placed over 4,800 participants in various employment opportunities throughout King County. Due to our bilingual and diverse case managers, we have served individuals from Mexico, Russia, Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Burma, Somalia, Sudan, and more. Our case managers meet our clients on their level of English proficiency, which allows us to fill in the gaps by speaking the many languages needed by our clients.  The program services offered by PSTC and designed by Safeway Distribution Center with Teamsters Union 117 consist of several components including comprehensive case management: job placement, retention, resume building, mock interviews, wage progression, financial literacy, and life skills. Our customized skills training programs which Safeway heavily contributed to cover Forklift/Warehouse training, Electric Pallet Jack training, Computer Basics, Customer Service, and CPR/First Aid & AED training. Our partners and supporters include Safeway, Teamsters Union 117, Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Office of Refugee and Immigrant Assistance (ORIA), Washington State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, Seattle Foundation, American Heart Association, the cities of Renton, Kent, Tukwila, and Burien here in Washington.

We have been fortunate to witness countless success stories, with individuals overcoming adversity, finding gainful employment, and building fulfilling careers. As a business that is known to promote the economic advancement of our most vulnerable populations such as low-income, communities of color, refugees, and immigrants, we invite you to join us in supporting the mission and focus of Puget Sound Training Center (PSTC).
