The Challenge
Washington is experiencing a pet overpopulation crisis due to the sheer numbers of unplanned litters of kittens and puppies being born because the cost to spay and neuter animals is too costly and there are not enough surgeries being performed.
The amount of unwanted animals being born day after day are overwhelming animal shelters, rescuers, pet owners, and communities. All too often, there is no place for these unwanted animals to go and, sadly, many are abandoned.
Because of this, thousands of cats and dogs in Washington are often left to suffer alone with the cycle of overpopulation left unchecked.
At Pawsitive Alliance, we know what is needed and what works:
More spay and neuter surgeries that people can access close to them and that are affordable or free. Reducing these barriers is key to increasing surgeries and ending the overpopulation crisis.
The great news? There is a strong demand for spay and neuter services, we don't have to convince people to do the right thing, we just need to reduce barriers.
Our Goal
Our goal is to continue increasing the number of spay and neuter surgeries. In doing so, we are getting at the root of pet overpopulation and stopping this cycle of suffering.
Through our Spay and Neuter Program, we cover the surgery fees for unowned cats and dogs and provide reduced cost or free surgeries for pets of Tribal members, unhoused community members, and people facing extreme financial constraints.
Our Spay and Neuter Program focuses on increasing services in areas of high need, ensuring the most vulnerable animals get the help they need and deserve.
From January-April, 2025, Pawsitive Alliance has already supported 28 spay and neuter clinics in eastern Washington, an area of immense overpopulation, and issued over 300 reduced cost vouchers.
Sometimes, our monthly vet bill can come in at $10,000-15,000. As a small organization, this is by far our biggest expense, and we can only keep these services going to prevent overpopulation and suffering with community support.
Your Donation
With your heartfelt contribution, we can continue being the safety net for cats and dogs who would otherwise go without help.
Pawsitive Alliance works closely with private and non-profit veterinary clinics to offer spay/neuter surgery vouchers and to organize clinics so no cat or dog is denied this important surgery, both for their health and to stop pet overpopulation and suffering.
